Toddler games are a fantastic way to teach your toddler multiple things like numbers, animals, letters, and etc. My son received a match game for Easter when he was 2 years old. He fell in love with the game; we played it so many times. He would get excited when he found both and say, “Duck, Duck”. This helped him tremendously in learning his animals and it added more to his vocabulary.

The memory match game shown is LeapFrog Fridge Wash & Go Magnetic Vehicle Set.  I personally had one of these for my toddler at the time and his was with farm animals, and he loved it.  It goes on the fridge and would make different noises, plus you could match different pieces.  It worked great when I was cooking dinner or cleaning the kitchen!  I also will show you how to create a match game from scratch!

A memory match game can be found in almost every toy store. If your child is younger I personally would go animal pictures or shapes. Whenever they match you can tell them what they found. Since this is such a fun game for kids they will pick it up and start to know and recognize the animals almost instantly. The numbers and letters will be a little bit harder but this will be perfect to help your little one learn their ABC’s.

If money is tight or maybe you just want to get more creative you can make your own memory games it is very inexpensive and easy to do.

*First: You will need white poster board you can find this at any hobby shop or outlet store. Cut the poster board evenly into 4 x 4 sections.

*Second: Search the internet for animals for picture memory games. Try and stick with the basic ones like ducks, cats, dogs, cows, and etc. Print off 2 pictures of each; make sure that they are not too big for the card.

*Third: Glue them to the cards, let them dry and you are done.

If this is your child’s first experience with toddler games, take it slow. Only use 2 or 3 sets of cards right off the bat. You do not want to overwhelm your little one to the point they do not want to play anymore. This would defeat the whole purpose. One of the most important this is to remember to make this as fun as possible.
